چکیده
Given a set of points P = {p1, p2 . . . , pn} ⊂ R, the 1-center problem is to determine the smallest radius ball containing P . Let x be the center of the ball and let r be its radius. We can express the problem of finding the 1-center as the following optimization problem. min r, ||x− pi|| ≤ r ∀i ≤ n In order to avoid computing square roots, we can reformulate the problem as: min r ||x− pi|| ≤ r ∀i ≤ n We first descirbe exact solutions to the 1-center problem and then describe approximation algorithms. The running time of all known exact algorithms is exponential in d.

Complexity of Determining the Most Vital Elements for the 1-median and 1-center Location Problems
We consider the k most vital edges (nodes) and min edge (node) blocker versions of the 1-median and 1-center location problems. Given a weighted connected graph with distances on edges and weights on nodes, the k most vital edges (nodes) 1-median (respectively 1-center) problem consists of finding a subset of k edges (nodes) whose removal from the graph leads to an optimal solution for the 1-me...
متن کاملThe p-median and p-center Problems on Bipartite Graphs
Let $G$ be a bipartite graph. In this paper we consider the two kind of location problems namely $p$-center and $p$-median problems on bipartite graphs. The $p$-center and $p$-median problems asks to find a subset of vertices of cardinality $p$, so that respectively the maximum and sum of the distances from this set to all other vertices in $G$ is minimized. For each case we present some proper...

1 Overview During this lecture we will present approximation algorithms for three network design problems: Group Steiner Tree, k-median and k-center. Goal: Find a tree in G that connects at least one vertex from each S i. Observe that we may guess one vertex r ∈ V (e.g. by trying all vertices from S 1), that is a part of an optimum solution. We want to prove that if G is a tree rooted at r of d...
متن کاملDeterministic Algorithm for 1-Median 1-Center Two-Objective Optimization Problem
k-median and k-center are two well-known problems in facility location which play an important role in operation research, management science, clustering and computational geometry. To the best of our knowledge, although these problems have lots of applications, they have never been studied together simultaneously as a multi objective optimization problem. Multi-objective optimization has been ...
